Zen Gains Golden Leaf

Local hospice includes Zen on Tree of Life

01 November 2006: Rochdale based Internet Service Provider (ISP) Zen Internet, was proud to receive a Tree of Life Award from Springhill Hospice at a ceremony at the hospice on Friday 27th October.

At the ceremony a golden leaf imprinted with Zen Internet was added to the tree. The tree is a symbol to thank those who have made a significant contribution to the work of the hospice. This award for Zen stemmed from the support and ongoing charity work the ISP has contributed to Springhill. To celebrate Zen's 10th anniversary back in October 2005, the ISP provided Springhill with broadband Internet access, a wireless router and a PC. One of Zen's partners, Rochdale-based, Novotec Computer Services installed the new PC on behalf of Zen. This technology is now housed in the hospice's new extension, which provides relatives of the hospice’s residents with a place to stay.

In addition to this, proceeds from various Zen fundraising activities throughout 2006 were given to the hospice, including an England Day during the World Cup and proceeds from the Saddleworth Beer walk. Zen also donated a camera last Christmas in place of the usual Christmas Cards that Zen sends out to their partners every year. The camera is used for promotions by the charity, fundraising events and by patients and their families.

Most recently Zen Web Solutions have been working with the Hospice to overhaul the current Web site. Moving forward this will include a new fundraising section which will help Springhill to receive online donations for the first time.

Julie Halliwell, Organisational Development Manager, Springhill Hospice, commented:

"On behalf of the hospice I would like to express our delight at the ongoing generosity shown by Zen, through their fundraising activities, regular visits and offers to help out wherever possible. The design work for the hospice Web site has been invaluable and will allow us to receive more donations. We have an excellent relationship with Zen, receiving financial and technical support with the benefit of gaining friends along the way. It is great to see a business that takes such an interest in the local community."

Iain Johnstone, Sales and Partner Programme Manager, Zen Internet commented:

"We are very proud to receive this place on Springhill’s Tree of Life as we are keen to help out the local hospice wherever possible. It is important to our company to be involved with the local community and we will continue to look at opportunities to help out the hospice wherever possible."
